Saving and Documenting the History of Honey Grove, Texas


Honey Grove Masonic Institute,

At Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas.


The first session of the above Institute will commence the first Monday in March next, to continue ten months, (40 weeks).  The scholastic year being divided into two equal give months session.


The Trustees announce that they have engaged for the present year, the following faculty, viz:


D. M. Hocker, President and Principal of Female Department, and Professor of Physical Science

W. R. Moody, Principal of Male Department and Professor Ancient Languages, Mathematics & Belles Lettres

Miss L. T. Vannoy, Teacher of Instrumental Music


The location is healthy and pleasant.  The school buildings are new and commodious.

Pupils from a distance can get boarding in pleasant families, at reasonable rates

Day School for Both Sexes


Under the supervision of Prof. R. A. Landrum as Principal and Mrs. Ann B. Shelton as Assistant, this Institution will resume exercises on Monday, Sept. 5th, 1879, and continue for a Session of Forty Weeks, which will be divided into Two Terms of Five Months each.

Masonic Institute


The Masonic Institute was chartered in January 1856 in Honey Grove.  It met in the attic of the Smith Hotel in 1856 and 1857.  In 1858 the Lodge built a two story building.
