Walcott Street

Walcott-Underwood House

B. O. Walcott built this three story home in the early 1890s.  It was the first home in Honey Grove to have an "inside" bathroom complete with a bathtub and hot water.  The bathroom featured a water well under the floor and a hand pump for filling the overhead water tank.  The water could be circulated through copper heating coils installed in the pot belly stove in the room.  The third floor was a large ballroom where many elaborate balls were held for Honey Grove's society and out-of-town guests. The home was later sold to John Arthur Underwood Sr..  The house was torn down in the 1940s.
